I believe that we should set aside times to indulge, be kind to ourselves. This doesn't have to equate to an all out shopping spree or a few hundred Benjamin Franklins dropped at a spa. Bliss can be free if you embrace opportunities. For example, Tuesday after work I had a 30 minute break before I needed to head to my other job. After carefully considering how to use my time wisely, I ended up at Windsor Jewelers to have my rings cleaned. I washed my hands with their lemon scented soap, slathered lotion over my beat up winter hands, helped myself to a cup of green tea and polished it off with a piece of Godiva chocolate. I thanked them kindly and left feeling pampered and thanked for my loyalty. A simple errand turned into a indulgent opportunity, all thanks to a good attitude.
Yesterday presented another chance for indulgence. Call me crazy, but a hard core work out is a total treat for me. Wednesday is hands down my busiest day in clinic, and I always treat myself to Shelly's 5:30 cycle class. She is my favorite instructor and her class perfectly segues a stressful day into a relaxing evening. Much to my dismay, her class was already full by the time I called the night before. Although I was disappointed, I decided to enjoy a nice long run instead. One episode of "Kim and Courtney Take New York" followed by "Fashion Police" and a snip-it of "E-news" later (again, we're talking indulgence!), I was beating with endorphins. I had just treated myself to an eleven mile run and I felt fantastic. Missing out on my favorite class turned into a great run, all thanks to a good attitude (and my favorite energy chews!).
When I got home from the Y, Jarrett took me out for sushi with his friends. While this wasn't exactly free, it was a small price to pay for utter bliss. We split three heavenly rolls, including one that was wrapped in mango! What have you done to treat yourself lately?
