Stay-cation and study-vacation

The last two weeks have been a whirlwind!! It all started with a visit from my mom (with sweet little Domie in tow). My mom loves Winston-Salem and we always run around and hit the highlights, Old Salem usually topping the list of to-do's. When my mom dropped me off for my interview with Wake Forest 4 years ago, she strolled around Old Salem while awaiting my phone call to be picked up. We have such warm memories of that day and the excitement of the unknown (Would I be accepted? Would I be moving to this new place?). I sure am glad that things worked out the way they did!

Nestled an hour and a half away from our home is the wonderful city of Charlotte!! We took advantage of its proximity and enjoyed the perfect Charlotte day trip. We cruised through uptown, grabbed a loaf of cinnamon chip from Great Harvest Bread, made a pit stop into South Park mall (I needed a Lululemon fix!), and landed in Ikea. Jarrett welcomed us home with a delicious tuna steak dinner. Home sweet home!

Other weekend activities included a personal training session at the Metabolic Effect Studio and an outdoor Metabolic Effect work-out with Jade Teta, the mastermind himself! We also re-modeled our downstairs half bath to top it all off! It was so lovely to show my mom around Winston, the place that I now consider home!

As much as I love Winston, it sure is great to get out of town!! Destination? Washington DC! Operation? PA boot camp and visit with my dear friend Anna! Anna and Travis moved to the city after we graduated in 2006. The majority of my college friends followed the same trend and since I lived at home the year after I graduated, I ended up visiting DC every other weekend. I fell in love with DC and almost went to George Washington for PA school. Again, I'm sure glad things worked out the way they did, but I also enjoyed this taste of city life while it lasted.

We kicked off our week at Tysons Corner for happy hour (insert confession that I picked up some new Lulu shorts and socks). The best thing about catching up with a good friend is that no matter how long its been since you've seen each other (4 months!) you feel like it was just yesterday. Anna knows me so well that she had the fixings for overnight oats and a gym pass laid out for me! How thoughtful! The days were spent in lectures and workshops, scribbling notes and networking with fellow mid-level providers. The evenings were spent playing at the gym, eating yummy dinners, and frolicking around the city. I had a wonderful and productive trip to DC!! Wonder where I'll travel next??
